How to become a Resident Champion

Are you passionate about maintaining a clean, safe, and well-kept neighbourhood? Here’s how you can make a difference in your community by becoming a Resident Champion!

What is a Resident Champion?

Resident Champions are an additional set of eyes and ears that will enable us to manage our neighbourhoods more effectively, whilst increasing engagement within our neighbourhoods.

Being a Resident Champion can really make a difference in creating a safer and more connected community.  By leveraging your local knowledge, you can help identify issues early, provide valuable feedback and nurture a sense of belonging among your neighbours. You can attend joint inspections of where you live with your NC.

You can choose the levels of involvement that best suit you and you’re free to adjust these at any time if your situation changes, so don’t worry about what you commit to.

How do I become a Resident Champion?

It’s simple, really – all you have to do is submit your interest either via the MyPA app or by filling out the form on the bottom of our Your Voice webpage and selecting option 8.

Your NC will get in touch to discuss becoming a Resident Champion – if your neighbourhood is currently vacant, another member of the Neighbourhoods team will contact you.

After choosing your level of involvement, you are officially a Resident Champion! You should expect to be in contact with your NC at least once a month, but they’ll discuss how often this will be and any other questions you may have in their first meeting with you.

So, join us in making a real difference by becoming a Resident Champion today!

We understand that things change, so please tell your NC if you ever need to step down from your role. We will automatically deregister you if you have not engaged in your role for 6 months or more.

More ways to get involved

Becoming a Resident Champion is just one of many ways you can give back to your neighbourhood as a PA resident. So take a look at the Your Voice page to learn more about the opportunities available to you.

Kerry Braden (1)
Resident Champion for Walton

Meet Kerry!

Hi, I’m Kerry, I became a Resident Champion as I want to be a more proactive resident helping to address issues and concerns affecting our homes.

I would love to make a change in our neighbourhood by sorting out the washing area as this is something many of the residents would be happy to see back in use. I would also like to improve our bin area by creating a recycling area and making sure our shed doors are secure and safe for residents to store their belongings.

Your Neighbourhood

Walton-On-Thames is a town in Surrey, positioned on the River Thames, about 15 miles from Central London. Its history stretches back to Saxon times and was recorded in the Domesday book. It also became associated with significant historical events such as the construction of Walton Bridge in 1750, which aided trade and growth in the 18th century. The town's architecture combines older Victorian and Edwardian residences with modern developments, particularly in new residential neighbourhoods. Significant structures include St Mary's Church and the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse.

Nature lovers can also enjoy various green spaces, such as Walton Marina and Ashley Park. Walton is well connected to Central London via Southwestern train services, and there are excellent bus connections, connecting Walton to nearby towns Esher, Weybridge, and Kingston.

There are numerous excellent educational and health-care options, including GP practices and dental clinics. Residents enjoy the Heart shopping centre, which features a range of shops, restaurants, and a gym, the Highstreet also boast several great local pubs, such as The Walton Village, contributing to the town's sense of community. Other local community events such as farmers markets, baby brunch clubs, and a repair café club are also hosted to bring residents together.
