Claygate is a picturesque village in Surrey, around 16 miles southwest of central London and near Esher. Claygate, the 'gateway to the clay,' got its name from the clay pits used to comprise the settlement and provided bricks for a large surrounding area, including the majority of Hampton Court Palace. The community expanded as a result of the arrival of royalty at nearby Claremont in 1816, which attracted many wealthy residents. Claygate now has a population of roughly 7,000 people, and popular residents include Terry Jones, a Monty Python comedy actor, and historian Frances Yates.  

The community is known for its blend of Victorian, Edwardian, and modern homes, as well as important buildings including the Holy Trinity Church and the Ruxley Tower. Surrounded by nature and green places such as Claygate Common, the village has a tranquil and rustic atmosphere. Claygate offers outstanding schools and healthcare services, with easy access to local hospitals Ashtead and Runnymede. Residents can enjoy a wide range of local independent stores, cafes, hairdressers, and restaurants. The region also hosts local community events to promote inclusion, such as the Annual Flower and Village Show, bridge clubs, bingo nights, and yoga lessons. 

Claygate station provides convenient connectivity to London, and the A3 and M25 are easily accessible. Known for its agricultural scenery and independent stores that contribute to the local economy.
