Signs of a greener lifestyle at Havelock Court

If you’re not already familiar, here at PA we have something called the Neighbourhood Improvement Fund, or NIF. The NIF is an amount of money your Neighbourhood Coordinator (NC) is given each year that they can manage and use for improvements, and these are chosen by listening to the voices of our residents. Let’s see how the NIF was able to make a difference in Kettering!

Jay, one of our NCs for Kettering, took part in a joint meeting at Havelock Court with a Waste and Recycling Officer to assess the supply of the waste and recycling bins in the bin stores. These types of meetings among teams are important as it helps us to make sure we’re doing what we can to improve your neighbourhood in the most efficient ways, while minimising any cost to you.

It was identified in the meeting that the bin stores would benefit from waste and recycling signs so that residents can identify at a glance where their rubbish needs to go, and encourage more recycling. Everyone who attended agreed that this was a beneficial use of the NIF alongside leaflet dropping to the houses of those who were unable to make the meeting.

To start off with leaflets were dropped to households, informing them of how to separate recyclables from their household waste when handling their rubbish. As a follow-up, the separate signs were fitted to each external bin store – as you can see below! It’s quite a small touch at first glance, but it doubles as a cheap and effective way to encourage proactivity in recycling and foster a real pride for where you live.
