Holidays Together Summer 2025 Holiday Activities & Food (HAF)
July and August at various dates and times
Location: Various venues across Oadby & Wigston
Cost: Free!
Leicestershire County Council are working with us here at Active Together to co-ordinate the programme, which will be delivered at venues across the county by schools, voluntary and community organisations, childcare providers and sports clubs.
Families in receipt of benefits related Free School Meals will receive a HAF Code showing their eligibility to attend FREE HAF provision for up to 16 sessions over Summer, including activities and food.
Steady Steps Plus
Mondays and Tuesdays at various times
Location: Venues across Oadby & Wigston
Cost: £5 per session and resistance band can be purchased for £1 at first session if you don’t have one
Steady Steps Plus classes are ongoing weekly exercise classes for those that would like to improve and maintain their strength, balance, and fitness. They were originally designed as the follow on from the Steady Steps 24-week programme to enable participants to continue exercising once their programme had finished, and have proved popular ever since.
Our classes are ideal for anybody who has completed a Steady Steps programme, would like to become more active, or would benefit from improving and maintaining their strength, balance and mobility.
Delivered by our friendly and experienced instructors, our sessions run each week at a number of venues across Blaby, Oadby & Wigston.
Walking Sports
Mondays from 7pm to 8pm (netball), Tuesdays from 6pm to 7pm (football) and Tuesdays from 6.30pm to 7.30pm (hockey)
Locations: Wigston College, Station Road Wigston, Leicester, LE18 2DT (netball) / Wigston Academy, Station Road, Wigston, Leicestershire, LE18 2DT (football) / Manor Road sports centre, Oadby, LE2 2LL (hockey)
Cost: £3 pp
Walking Sports are a brilliant way to introduce sport into your life if you are looking for a low impact option or are returning from injury. Most of the sports have the same rules as standard versions, only rather than running to get the ball or get to the next base, you walk, meaning its brilliant for those who are looking for the fun of playing sport without high impact.
The benefits of these gentle forms of sport have also seen increased positive health results, weight loss, rehabilitation progress and the opening up of social networks for the people taking part!
Age UK Neighbourhood Mental Health Café Oadby
Mondays from 10am to 1pm
Location: Trinity Methodist Church, Harborough Road, Oadby, Leicester, LE2 5AB
Cost: Free!
Set in the heart of Oadby, the Neighbourhood Mental Health Café is a safe place to go if you are experiencing mental health issues where you will be listened to & supported.
The cafés are drop-in centres for anyone to come and talk about their mental health in confidence - no appointment needed. They are run by partners on behalf of the NHS.
Supportive, trained staff are available to listen and provide the practical support you need.
If you need urgent mental health support, call the NHS's free 24/7 Mental Health Central Access Point on 0808 800 3302. Always call 999 if there is a physical threat to life.

Leicester Food Festival
August 9 – August 10 from 11pm til 9pm Saturday and 8pm Sunday
Location: Abbey Park, Abbey Park Road, Leicester, LE4 5AQ
Cost: Early bird – adult £11.80 / child £6.00 / free entry for children 5 and under
Set to be the biggest food event of the year, the Leicester Food Festival will be returning to Abbey Park for its second year this August, creating a paradise for food and drink lovers.
With a diverse range of cuisines from local traders and beyond, including street food vendors, bars, local brewers, cocktails, and array of sweet treats. In addition, enjoy live local music all weekend, entertainment, workshops, tastings, talks, children’s cooking classes, a circus school and other fun activities for all the family.

Oadby Annual Motor Fest
August 10 from 10am to 4pm – no show cars to arrive before 9.30am

Come on down to The Parade in Oadby for a fantastic fun, FREE event for all the family. Classics, modern classics, bikes and anything interesting with 2, 3, 4 (or more) wheels!
Working with Sporting Bears Dream Rides to support Adapt Premature Babies. Enjoy a dream ride in a vehicle of your choice for a donation to charity.
Cafés and shops open and a BBMF flypast around 3pm!
VJ Day Flag Raising
August 15 from 10am
Location: Brocks Hill Council Offices, Washbrook Lane, Oadby, LE2 5JJ
Cost: Free!
On Friday 15 August we will be holding a flag raising ceremony at Brocks Hill Country Park to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VJ Day. Veterans and members of the public are invited to join us outside the Brocks Hill Council Offices, Washbrook Lane, Oadby, LE2 5JJ, at 10 am for a short ceremony. Everyone is welcome, and there is no need to RSVP.
VJ Day marks the anniversary of the Japanese surrender to the Allied Forces, which ended the Second World War. Over 90,000 British troops were casualties in the war against Japan. 30,000 died and 37,500 were prisoners of war.
During the fighting against Japan in Malaya around 16 men from Oadby & Wigston were taken as prisoners of war. Three of these men are remembered on war memorials in our borough.
