Equans spruces up Leicester community

The team from one of our Midlands retrofit projects has built new wooden planters for a community garden on Earl Howe Street, Leicester.

The planters, located at Twycross Cottages in Leicester, are close to where Equans is reducing the carbon emissions of 100 of our terraced houses.

Our residents living at 11-19 Earl Howe Street very kindly allowed Equans to use their communal area as an office space while our contractors carried out the retrofit project in their homes. As a kind gesture, Equans suggested renovating the shared garden area, taking requests from our residents on what they'd like.

Over the summer, we worked together with Equans to get our hands dirty and install some planters and benches on Earl Howe Street. We spent the day cleaning and planting flowers and vegetables.

Luckily, we had some sun that day!

I asked Jeanette what the impact of the change had been for her. She said:

“It’s absolutely fantastic! It’s the happiest I’ve been since I’ve been here. I don’t think I’ve even seen my garden since I moved in.” (She’s lived there since 1997).

“I come to my back door and look at it every morning with a big smile on my face. The neighbours are jealous. You should see the smile on my face when I’m talking about it.

“My youngest granddaughter keeps saying, ‘Garden, garden!’”

Our one team approach has worked to great effect in this instance, and we look forward to working with PiLON on other social value projects that we can bring to you in future.
