Resting on the River Soar, Central Leicester is a vibrant city that boasts a strong economy and one of the most diverse populations in the country. It is the largest city in the East Midlands and is nestled between London, Birmingham and Coventry, Nottingham and Derby and Peterborough. The city has a long history dating back to the Roman times, being the site of the town Ratae Corieltauvorum before it was captured by Anglo-Saxons and then Vikings, only to become one of the Five Boroughs of Danelaw. Its importance ran through the Middle Ages, and it became an important industrial and commercial centre in the Victorian age until it gained city status in 1919.

Leicester's architectural history is scattered across the city with Roman baths and cemeteries, churches and cathedrals in Roman, Norman, Victorian and Gothic styles, as well as Medieval structures and buildings right in the city centre. Not only this, but nature is on its doorstep with Castle Gardens and Victoria Park just a stone's throw from the centre, as well as Abbey Park and the River Soar as other notable natural attractions.

Central Leicester is home to several excellent amenities such as schools, sixth forms, two universities, places of worship across all religions, Leicester Royal Infirmary and both the Haymarket and Highcross Shopping Centres. The city is at the midpoint of the M1 but also has its own railway station and is well-connected by buses including the free circular Hop! service. Additionally, it is well-connected to East Midlands Airport, National Cycle Network Route 6 and several waterways. Central Leicester's community is bustling and fuelled by its culture, with local events annually such as the Caribbean Carnival, Diwali and a Pride Parade as well as events for the arts and sports such as comedy and short film festivals and rugby, football, basketball and cricket. Leicester is famous for its textiles and engineering industries and many large companies within and outside of the sectors make the city the home of their headquarters, joining local hospitals in boosting employment for those living both inside and outside of the city centre.
