Aylestone is a vibrant and diverse community that rests just southwest of Leicester City Centre and east of the River Soar. The name 'Aylestone' comes from the Anglo-Saxon 'Aegel's settlement' or 'Egil's settlement’ and was known in the Domesday Book as ‘Ailstone’. It is full of rich history, with St Andrew's Church consisting of a blend of Early English and Decorated work dating back to the 13th century and surrounded by Victorian housing close to the city centre and 20th century housing in other directions.
Nature is on its doorstep, with Aylestone Meadows Local Nature Reserve and the River Soar hugging the west side of the neighbourhood. Aylestone Park has access to several excellent amenities such as schools and colleges, multifaith places of worship, health and medical services and both big-name and international supermarkets. The area is connected to Leicester with frequent bus services, accessible by car as the A563 runs along the south of the area and even connected to the Grand Junction Canal.
Local clubs and organisations foster a sense of community with regular events that range from sports to socials to nature appreciation, and the neighbourhood's proximity to Leicester General Hospital and a variety of businesses in the area contribute to the local economy by offering jobs to those in living close by.
