Your Neighbourhood
Chessington is a town in southwest London, around 12 miles from central London and 5 miles from Kingston. Its history dates back to the Saxon period, when it was a small rural village based on farming and agriculture until the arrival of the railway in the 19th century. The town is famous for Chessington World of Adventure, which opened in 1931 as a zoo, and later extended into a theme park in the 1980s, becoming a significant attraction in the area. Chessington is architecturally diverse, including Tudor, Victorian, Georgian, and modern homes, the majority of which are semi-detached. Notable historical landmarks in the neighbourhood are Chessington Hall and St Marys Church, which is 800 years old.
The town is surrounded by natural areas such as Chessington Wood and Horton Country Park, which provide green spaces and walking trails. The neighbourhood has excellent primary and secondary schools, as well as great medical and dental practices. Chessington boasts a range of local stores, supermarkets, pubs, and restaurants to meet the diverse needs of its residents. Local community events that bring the residents together include seasonal events at Chessington World of Adventure, community fairs, live music evenings, and Spanish social clubs.
Chessington is located on the A3, which provides direct access to central London, and it is served by two train stations, Chessington North and South, which provide handy access to local towns and commuters heading into the capital. Chessington World of Adventures, one of the area's largest employers and a popular tourist destination, contributes to the town's economy. Future development plans include residential buildings to fulfil rising demand, with a focus on affordable housing in the neighbourhood.
