Bookham is a small village in Surrey, around 20 miles southwest of central London. With a history dating back to the Middle Ages, Bookham was mostly an agricultural village until the 19th century, when it expanded into a residential neighbourhood. Notable landmarks in the area include Polesden Lacey, an Edwardian country house and estate donated to the National Trust in 1942. The community is recognised for its attractive architecture, which consists of a mix of Victorian, Edwardian, and modern homes.
Bookham is surrounded by stunning countryside’s, including Bookham Common and Norbury Park, providing scenic walking and cycling trails. The community retains a picturesque feel while offering plenty amenities such as several great schools, healthcare services, as well as easy access to nearby hospitals Epsom and the Royal Surrey County Hospital. The High Street includes stores, cafes, and traditional pubs like The Anchor. Bookham Community Centre hosts a variety of community events to enhance community spirit, including fitness classes and local sports clubs like tennis, cricket, and football. Other local events include the yearly Bookham Village Day, Bookham Open Garden, and Polesden Lacey events.
The neighbourhood is well connected by Bookham railway station, which provides regular service to London Waterloo, Guildford, and Leatherhead. The community is also conveniently located near the A246 and only a short drive from the M25. Bookham's economy is supported by a variety of local businesses, retail shops, schools, and healthcare facilities, as well as Polesdeen Lacey, which attracts tourists to the area. Future developments in the area will focus on small-scale housing developments to address the demand for affordable housing.
