Resident Champions: Shaping Your Communities

Over the past three months, our incredible Resident Champions have been rolling up their sleeves and working closely with our Neighbourhood Coordinators to improve their neighbourhoods, solve issues and build a stronger sense of community.

They’re doing more than just reporting repairs – they are welcoming new neighbours, sharing helpful ideas and bringing people together. Here are a few highlights of the amazing things happening in your neighbourhoods, thanks to the support of your Resident Champion.

Welcoming New Residents & Supporting Your NC

In Cobham, one of our Resident Champions has been out and about with NC Elliott, inspecting the grounds and helping spot repairs early. But what really stood out is that she took the time to greet new residents, making them feel welcome and part of the community from day one.

She’s also shared two brilliant recipes for our upcoming August newsletter. A great sweet treat for children to make with their grown-ups and a budget friendly meal, perfect for the summer holidays. Keep and eye out for these on the 1 August.

Listening & Supporting Your Neighbourhood

Over in Sunbury, another Resident Champion has been a go-to person for her neighbours. She’s been helping residents report issues – such as a bee nest in the communal gardens and keeping everyone updated, informing residents of the changes to the bin locks.

She also mentioned that sometimes it’s hard to get answers quickly. One way of staying informed is to check out your Neighbourhood Action Plan on your Neighbourhood Coordinators webpage, to stay up to date on improvements happening around your home.

Spot It, Report It & We’ll Sort It

In Claygate, Resident Champion Goeff, has teamed up with neighbours, and his NC Sarah to keep an eye on local problems. Thanks to their efforts, a broken bench on the green has already been repaired!

He’s also raised concerns about empty homes, and damaged garden fencing and antisocial behaviour near the garages, which are all being looked into. To find out more on how to manage ASB in your neighbourhood, take a look at our ASB Toolkit.

Kerry’s Project: Turning Ideas into Action

Meet Kerry, a Resident Champion who’s been working closely with your NC Paul to revamp a shared drying area. From day one, Kerry saw the space had potential and now, she has helped clear it. The NC has also added a lock to stop misuse, and plans are in place to remove the graffiti in the coming days.

But Kerry isn’t stopping there, she suggested keeping the space as a drying area for all to use, especially in the warmer summer weather, or wants to explore turning the area into a recycling hub to help residents manage waste better.

Take a look at some of the photos below to see how far the project has come – we can’t wait to see the finished result!
