With a heatwave planned in the coming days, some of us may be celebrating that summer has arrived, but some of us may be struggling to cope in the hot weather.
The NHS has issued guidance on how to cope, who is most at risk, and what to do if you're concerned
Here's a few tips to help though:
- Drink plenty of water, and avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks which will dehydrate you quicker.
- Try to keep you home cool by keeping curtains and blinds closed.
- Open windows and doors if you can to allow for air to flow through your home.
- If you can, keep out of the heat especially between 11.00am-3,00pm.
- if you do go outside in the heat, wear sunscreen, a hat, loose clothing and stay as cool as you can.
- If you find yourself overheating, take a cold shower or use a cold cloth on your skin to try and cool down.
- Look out for your family, friends, and neighbours especially if they're older or are vulnerable as they may find it harder to cope.
If you have concerns about your health during the heatwave, and are worried about heat exhaustion or heatstroke, then you can contact the NHS on 111 for advice. Please only contact 999 if it's a medical emergency.
If you have outstanding repairs which are preventing you from keeping cool, such as a faulty window or shower, then please contact us on 0300 123 2221.
