We believe that every person has a right to protection, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender and nationality. We actively work to safeguard children, young persons and vulnerable adults from harm.

At PA Housing, safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding means protecting people from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and harm.

This includes:

  • Recognising signs of abuse or neglect in our homes or communities.
  • Working closely with local authorities, health services, and the police.
  • Promoting a culture of openness, trust, and accountability.

Types of abuse for adults identified under the Care Act 2014 include:

  • Physical
  • Sexual
  • Psychological (Emotional)
  • Financial or Material
  • Neglect and Acts of Omission
  • Discriminatory
  • Organisational
  • Domestic Abuse
  • Self-neglect
  • Modern Slavery

Our commitment to safeguarding

At PA Housing, we're committed to creating safe environments where residents and colleagues feel secure and empowered to speak up if something isn’t right.

We're also committed to ensuring that we take the appropriate action to safeguard our residents so we have:

  • Clear reporting pathways for staff and residents.
  • Partnership working with safeguarding boards and statutory agencies.
  • Regular training and updates for all frontline and support staff.
  • Resident empowerment, ensuring people know their rights and how to seek help.
  • Separate policies and procedures for Safeguarding adult and children and young people

What to look out for

Signs that vulnerable adults, children and young people may need safeguarding support, could be:

  • Change in behaviour
  • Having poor hygiene and being noticeably dirty/smelling
  • Recurrent injuries that they might try to conceal
  • Having clothing that is too small/big for them
  • An increased number of people entering their property
  • Increased ASB linked to their home

We are proud to uphold these standards and continuously improve our safeguarding approach to protect those who need us most.
