What you can expect from grounds maintenance

We wanted to share an update on what residents may notice across their communal outdoor spaces.

The Met Office reported that winter 2025 – 2026 was wetter than average across the UK, with Southern England experiencing its fourth wettest winter in records going back to 1836. This means some grassed areas may be softer than usual, and grass, weeds and plants may start growing more quickly as the weather becomes milder (or hotter).

Because of this, you may see our grounds maintenance contractors on site earlier in the season – carrying out grass cutting, weeding, pruning, planting and tidying up shared outdoor areas.

Contractors focus on:

  • Grass cutting in communal areas
  • Weeding and general grounds maintenance
  • Pruning shrubs and cutting back overgrown areas where needed
  • Checking planted areas, trees and shrubs
  • Keeping paths, access routes and shared outdoor spaces safe and clear
  • Reporting any issues that need further action

You may notice:

  • Grass and weeds growing quickly between visits
  • Grassed areas looking wetter or softer than usual
  • Grounds maintenance teams on site earlier than expected
  • Visits being rearranged because of wet or cold weather
  • Some areas being left longer for short periods to support wildlife and biodiversity

We’re also continuing to look after our green spaces in a more sustainable way. In some areas, this may mean allowing grass to grow a little longer at certain times of the year. This does not mean the area has been forgotten. It is part of how we manage green spaces more responsibly, while keeping shared areas safe and accessible.

Our contractors will continue to monitor communal outdoor areas and take action where needed. This includes checking paths, access routes, planted areas, shrubs and grassed areas.

Thank you for your understanding while we adapt our services to the changing weather.
