At PA Housing we’re always looking for ways to connect with our residents and help build more supportive communities. Our recent partnership with East Elmbridge Foodbank is a great example of what we can achieve when organisations come together to support those in need.
It all started on 10 June, when Jo from East Elmbridge Foodbank met Justine from our Tenancy Sustainment Team at the Cost-of-Living Steering Group. They spoke about the idea of PA attending the Foodbank and Community Breakfast, a weekly event that brings people together over free breakfast and food parcel handouts.
After that chat, Jo got in touch to make it happen. Justine put her in contact with Sacha, our Neighbourhood Team Manager, who worked with her team to set up a Neighbourhood Surgery.
Our First Visit
Although your Neighbourhood Coordinator Megan used to attend the Foodbank and Community Breakfast regularly to chat with residents, it had been a while, so she was really pleased to be back and see some familiar faces still coming along.
On Thursday 31 July, Megan was joined by NC Rosie for their first Neighbourhood Surgery at the Foodbank and Community Breakfast. The aim was to find the best spot in the busy environment to hold regular drop-ins going forward. It was also a great opportunity to listen to your concerns and strengthen our relationship with the team at East Elmbridge Foodbank.
What is the Community Breakfast?
Held every Thursday from 9:30am – 11:30am at St Peter’s Community & Youth Hub, Ray Road, West Molesey, KT8 2LG.The free Community Breakfast runs alongside the Foodbank located in the main hall.
Doors open at 9:20am, with the last breakfast order at 11:15am.
Here’s what’s on offer:
-
Cooked breakfast (Including sausages and English breakfast items)
-
Toast, croissants and pastries
-
Tea, coffee and biscuits
It’s a relaxed and friendly space to connect with others, enjoy a free hot meal and get extra support.
Supporting Our Residents
At the foodbank and breakfast, Megan and Rosie were on hand to speak to residents. A couple of residents used the opportunity to raise concerns about repairs in their homes. Our team was able to provide updates and advice on the spot, showing the benefit of being present in the community.
It was great to see how much this meant to our residents, who told us they were happy to see PA there and are looking forward to our return.
What’s Next?
Once the renovation to the main hall at the hub is completed later this summer. Megan and Rosie will be holding monthly Neighbourhood Surgeries at the breakfast and foodbank sessions, this is to make sure residents feel supported, informed and heard.
Keep an eye on your NC's website – dates for the upcoming surgeries will be confirmed soon.
