We've been made aware of a number of residents receiving wat we understand to be fake, or scam, text messages claiming to be from the DWP.
The message includes a link with the instruction to "apply now", claiming that claimants have less than 24 hours to access the funds.
In a statement the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that
"The Energy Bills Support Scheme ended on 1 April 2024" making the text messages entirely fraudulent.
They continue to advise:
"If you have any doubt whether a text is genuine, you forward it to 60599 and you will receive a reply confirming if it's legitimate from the DWP."
Each message forwarded to 60599 is analysed and action taken to shut down phishing sites and work with network providers against repeat offenders.
