Cupcake Day for Alzheimer's Society
2019 - June, Latest news
PA Housing's Independent Living Team pulled out all the stops to support the Alzheimer’s Society Cupcake Day. They arranged a series of coffee mornings and raised a whopping £438.24.
The Firs in Claygate in Surrey kicked off the week and further events were held at Milton House in Leicester and Pollard Court in Nottingham. Customers at some schemes also took the time to organise raffles in support such a worthy cause.
We were overwhelmed by the fantastic turnout,. Customers and colleagues from other schemes and service areas joined in the fun, and even the local beat officers popped in for coffee and cake. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We even managed to make it a double celebration for one of our customers, who was celebrating her 103rd BirthdayIndependent Living Manager Dawn Cooke
Cakes where plentiful, there was so much homemade fayre to tempt everyone and a number of cakes were taken back to the PA Housing offices, where more donations were gratefully received. The association is blessed with some fantastic bakers - this event might just have launched our own bake-off!
There was a tremendous amount of hard work and planning which went into making the events such a success.
Dawn added: "The money raised by Cupcake Day can change someone’s world when they are living with Dementia, but we also made a difference to each and every customer who supported the event. Having a cup of tea and a sharing a few kind words can make all the difference to someone’s day. We all have a part to play in preventing social Isolation and this was a perfect occasion for that."
