New play area at Eden Park

Tucked away down a side street in Corby, Eden Park has 13 self-contained flats that provide a safe place for vulnerable young parents, many of whom have suffered domestic violence or have nowhere else to go.
The flats surround a large, but under-used courtyard, so the staff decided to improve facilities for residents’ children by installing a safe play area there.
Support worker Angela Lawlor said: “We are lucky at Eden Park that we have a good size communal courtyard, but we felt that it wasn’t completely suitable for our little residents because of its uneven ground, steps and a lot of concrete. So we've created a better space for them.”
It was a tricky task, but the team contacted local businesses and chose Steve from Gardening Needs Corby to do the work. He levelled the area and laid artificial grass to provide soft landings. Then he fenced it and added a secure gate.
“What we really needed was a proper play area which could be fenced with a gate to keep the children safe,” Angela said. “The end result is a fabulous, safe, secure space for the children to play.
The team then ordered play equipment to fill the space, including a wooden climbing frame.
“This is a huge improvement, “Angela added. “All our residents have remarked how great it is and love that it’s enclosed so their little ones are safe. And what about our little residents? It goes without saying it's a thumbs up from them too.”
