Matt Cooney to leave PA Housing

2019 - April, Latest news

Matt Cooney has today announced that he is leaving PA Housing after 9 years service.

Matt originally joined LHA-ASRA as Group Chief Executive in 2010 and became Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive for PA Housing following the merger between Paragon and Asra in April 2017.

Matt said:

"I am sad to leave PA Housing.  The organisation is very different to the one that I joined 9 years ago and is a lot stronger in terms of its service offering to customers, general performance and its financial strength.  When the merger between Paragon and Asra was agreed, I was asked to stay and make sure that three things happened;

  1. the smooth integration of the two businesses
  2. delivery of the outcomes that were promised in the merger business case that was approved by both Boards and the regulator
  3. that operational performance should remain strong and continue to improve while the business was going through integration.

With the help of colleagues and managers, all three of these things have been achieved.  Also the improvements to our systems and structures that were based on a “best of both” approach has meant that PA Housing is in a much better position than either of the legacy organisations.  Now that this is done, I feel that it is the right time for me to move on.|"

I am really proud of what PA Housing has achieved over the last 2 years and it now feels like ‘one organisation’.  Everywhere I look I can see our people preparing for the future with confidence and I feel that we are in really good shape.  I feel proud to have been part of the formation of PA Housing and I am confidant that the organisation will provide great services to customers and be at the forefront of new housing supply for years to come.”

Matt Cooney; Chief Operating Officer

Dilip Kavi, Chief Executive commented:

“Matt has done an outstanding job in integrating the two businesses, and PA Housing’s success is largely due to his dedication and abundance of energy to complete the work one year ahead than planned.  I am indebted to Matt for working with me in recent years to create and turn PA into a successful organisation that is on the road to provide brilliant services to our customers.  Matt’s excellent skills and talents in managing change have been invaluable to us in our formative stage.  Along with PA Board Members and the rest of the Executive Team I wish him the very best for the future.”
